Decarbonise Now ! - Mobility [3/5]

In partnership with the CarbonNerds from the LIST, the Ministry for Consumer Protection, the Ministry of International Cooperation, Greenpeace and Infogreen we ought to bring you local short and long term solutions and actions to decarbonise in Luxembourg. There are 5 events to discuss sectors with high carbon emissions - energy, mobility, housing, food and consumption goods.

Mobility 

Mobility represents significant sustainability challenges in Luxembourg. Besides issues linked with fuel tourism and an ever-increasing volume of cross-border commuting, Luxembourg tops Europe's rankings in car ownership rate or new sales' emission levels. The Autofestival gathers more and more potential buyers year on year. Residents drive often, but they also travel frequently by plane, be it for work or for holidays. As a result, mobility is the main contributor to our carbon emissions – surely we can do something about it?

This talk aims at exploring the environmental impacts of mobility patterns in Luxembourg and what solutions can be envisaged to decrease this environmental pressure.

The presented information will be based on scientific data gathered by researchers of the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST). The latter particularly investigated the carbon footprint of Luxembourg residents and potential decarbonization pathways. While the impacts of mobility on climate change will be primarily discussed; other effects, e.g., on ecosystem or resource depletion, will also be highlighted when relevant.
